Preliminary police interrogation revealed that the occupants identified themselves as nationals of Togo.

They reportedly stated that they were travelling to Tuntumba, a community known for illegal mining activities, with the intention of engaging in galamsey.

Police sources indicate that the suspects were unable to provide documentation authorising their presence or activities in the area.

As a result, all twenty-two individuals have been placed in police custody pending further action.

The suspects are expected to be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service to undergo the appropriate immigration and legal processes in line with Ghanaian law.

The Savannah Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating illegal mining, which poses significant environmental, economic, and security risks to affected communities.

Authorities have also appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities.
