34 Seriously Injured Following Tragic Road Accident at Suhum

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), through the Suhum Municipal Fire Station, responded promptly to a road traffic accident at Asuboi along the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026.

The station received a distress call at 0255 hours and immediately dispatched a seven-member rescue team led by Station Officer II Antwi Forson to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team found a KIA Grandbird 34-seater passenger bus lying on its side in the middle of the roadway.

A rapid scene assessment was conducted, after which the crew successfully rescued the driver, who was trapped in the vehicle, using specialized extrication equipment.

Other injured passengers had been rescued before the arrival of the fire service personnel and were conveyed to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention.

The incident resulted in a total of 34 casualties. The driver sustained severe injuries, while the remaining passengers suffered minor injuries.

No fatalities were recorded. The bus sustained partial damage, particularly to its front and other sections.

After completing rescue operations, the GNFS team ensured the road was cleared and made safe for motorists. The crew officially departed the scene at 0453 hours.
