A dramatic rescue unfolded aboard a commercial vessel traveling from Lomé, Togo, to Italy after a man was discovered hiding inside a ship’s vessel compartment following five days at sea.
According to crew accounts, the stowaway went completely undetected throughout the early stages of the journey.
The situation came to light only when crew members were startled by faint cries for help emerging from within the vessel.
Upon investigation, they discovered a severely weakened man trapped inside a confined space, pleading for assistance and reporting that he was close to death.
