A tense scene unfolded during a night vigil at Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State, after a man reportedly stormed the church premises wielding a cutlass over what he described as excessive noise.

His sudden appearance with a cutlass caused panic, forcing some members to flee while others sought refuge within the church building.
Church leaders reportedly attempted to calm the situation and appealed for restraint, emphasizing that the vigil was a lawful religious gathering.
Residents in the area say noise complaints between churches and nearby households have been an ongoing issue, particularly during overnight services.
Security sources indicated that the matter was later brought to the attention of local authorities.
While no injuries were officially reported, the incident has raised concerns about public safety, conflict resolution, and the need for dialogue between religious institutions and surrounding communities.
Community leaders have since called for calm, urging residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead rely on lawful channels to address grievances.
They also appealed to churches to be mindful of noise levels, especially during late-night activities, to maintain peaceful coexistence within residential areas.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities are expected to take appropriate action based on their findings.
