An elder brother of Yaw Sarpong has publicly clarified misconceptions surrounding the late man’s marital status, stating unequivocally that Yaw Sarpong did not have a wife at the time of his death.
According to him, Pinamang, often described in public discussions as Sarpong’s wife, legally divorced him more than 16 years ago.
Speaking to address what he described as “persistent misinformation,” the elder brother explained that the marriage between Yaw Sarpong and Pinamang formally ended over a decade and a half ago, after which both parties went their separate ways.

Since that time, he said, there was no reconciliation, remarriage, or marital relationship that would justify referring to Pinamang as Sarpong’s wife.
He emphasized that accuracy is important, especially during sensitive moments involving bereavement and family matters.
“It is painful for the family to see incorrect narratives repeated as fact,” he noted, adding that such claims misrepresent both the personal history of the deceased and the truth known to close relatives.
The family, he said, is not interested in controversy but feels compelled to correct the record in the interest of fairness and respect for the truth.
He urged the public and media practitioners to verify information before publication and to be mindful of the emotional impact misinformation can have on grieving families.
