A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Akwasi Konadu, has firmly dismissed claims that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was responsible for the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections, describing such assertions as dishonest and intellectually lazy.
Speaking in an interview aired on Oyerepa FM, Hon. Konadu argued that reducing the NPP’s electoral setback to the actions or personality of a single individual grossly oversimplifies a complex political outcome.
According to him, elections are shaped by multiple variables, including economic pressures, voter expectations, internal party dynamics, campaign strategy, and broader national sentiment.

He maintained that Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President and flagbearer, played his role within the collective framework of government and party leadership.
“If anyone tells me that Dr. Bawumia was the reason for the NPP’s loss in the 2024 elections, then that person is not being truthful with himself,” Hon. Konadu stated, stressing that accountability must be shared rather than selectively assigned.
The NPP stalwart cautioned party members and commentators against scapegoating, warning that such narratives could deepen internal divisions and hinder the party’s rebuilding efforts ahead of future elections.
Instead, he called for a sober, evidence-based post-election assessment that examines policy choices, communication gaps, grassroots engagement, and public perception of governance.
Hon. Konadu also emphasized the need for unity and introspection, noting that political maturity requires acknowledging collective responsibility in both victory and defeat.
He urged party faithful to focus on reforms and strategic renewal rather than blame games, which, in his view, offer little value to the party or the democratic process.
As the NPP reflects on its 2024 performance, his comments add to a growing internal debate on how the party can regroup, reconnect with voters, and present a stronger, more cohesive front in future national contests.
