The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing investigations into a kidnapping syndicate operating in Wapuli, Northern Region, following the arrest of a key suspect after weeks of intensive surveillance.
The case dates back to December 6, 2025, when the PID successfully rescued a 42-year-old man who had been abducted by a four-member syndicate in Wapuli.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspects at the time, while one suspect remained at large. During the ordeal, the victim reportedly sustained life-threatening cutlass wounds.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of GH¢100,000, out of which GH¢90,000 was paid. Police efforts later led to the retrieval of GH¢70,000 of the ransom amount.
Undeterred by the brutality of the crime, the police sustained intelligence-led operations and a targeted manhunt to track down the remaining suspect.
These efforts paid off in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, when officers apprehended the fourth and key suspect, Hoyeefe Amadu, at about 1:30 a.m.
He was arrested at his hideout in a village approximately 10 kilometres from the outskirts of Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu.
Meanwhile, the three earlier suspects have been remanded into prison custody and are awaiting reappearance in court.
