Police Launch Manhunt for Alleged Arms Dealer in Kasoa Election Shooting

The Ghana Police Service has intensified efforts to track down a cattle herder suspected of selling the pump-action shotgun used in a shooting incident at a polling station in Kasoa during the 2024 general elections.

According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Mujaheed Suraj, aged 35, was arrested on January 17, 2026, in connection with the incident.

During interrogation, Suraj reportedly confessed to discharging the firearm at the Odupongkpehe Zongo polling station, an act that left two voters injured and disrupted the electoral process.

Investigators say Suraj admitted to purchasing the weapon for GH¢4,000 from a herdsman believed to be operating in Gomoa Potsin in the Central Region.

This revelation has prompted a targeted manhunt for the alleged seller as police work to dismantle the supply chain of illegal firearms.

The police have described the incident as a serious threat to public safety and democratic stability, stressing that anyone involved in the illegal sale or possession of firearms will face the full rigours of the law.

The injured victims are reported to be in stable condition and receiving medical care.
