One Dead, Several Injured in Violent Youth Clash at Winneba

A violent confrontation between two rival youth factions in Sankor, a suburb of Winneba in the Central Region, has left one person dead and several others injured, sparking renewed concerns over youth violence in the area.

The clash, which occurred on Sunday, January 25, was marked by extreme brutality.

Graphic videos circulating on social media show individuals from the opposing groups inflicting machete wounds during the confrontation.

The immediate cause of the violence remains unclear.

Confirming the incident, the Winneba Divisional Police Commander, ACP Ibrahim Opoku, stated that “several persons got injured in the clash.”

He added that police acted swiftly after reviewing the circulated videos, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects believed to have participated in the violence.

Sources within the community have identified the deceased as an individual known as Excoba, who reportedly succumbed to multiple machete and gunshot wounds sustained during the clash.

His death has heightened tension in the area, prompting an increased security presence.

Police say they have intensified patrols and operational activities within Sankor and surrounding communities to prevent any reprisal attacks and ensure public safety.

Calm has since been restored, though investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to identify all those involved and bring them to justice.
