Seven Suspects Arrested Over Robbery Involving State Council Members

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects in connection with a violent armed robbery incident, following intelligence-led operations in the Savannah Region.

The suspects have been identified as Rashida Youssef, Aaron Abana Basrifang, Wilson Avasong, Muntaro Idrisu (alias Virgin), Aminu Zebrila (alias Breadman), Inusa Sumaila (alias Agenda), and Haruna Safiano.

According to the Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Donkor, the robbery was carried out by six armed men who attacked the victim and made away with personal belongings, including mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, and a laptop.

COP Donkor disclosed that on January 11, 2026, the CID received actionable intelligence, prompting the deployment of the Anti–Armed Robbery Unit to Saraga in the Savannah Region.

The operation led to the arrest of Rashida Youssef, who was found in possession of an iPhone 7 Plus belonging to one of the victims. The device was subsequently retrieved.

Further investigations resulted in the recovery of additional stolen items, as well as the discovery of locally manufactured firearms and ammunition.

During interrogation, suspect Wilson Avasong admitted to purchasing the iPhone 7 Plus from Muntaro Idrisu, a phone repairer also known as Virgin, for GH¢1,000.

Police also confirmed that Aminu Zebrila is an ex-convict who was previously jailed for robbery in 2012.

The CID says investigations are ongoing to arrest additional suspects and recover a firearm believed to still be in the possession of the gang.
