The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a commercial fire outbreak at the Tema Community 1 Market, located behind ABSA Bank, preventing what could have escalated into a major market inferno.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Upon receiving a distress call at 0909 hours, firefighters from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station, with support from a water tanker dispatched by the Tema Regional Headquarters, responded swiftly and arrived at the scene within ten minutes.

Thanks to the prompt and coordinated intervention, the fire was confined to six shops—four sandcrete structures and two metal container shops.
