A devastating accident has been recorded on the Nsawam–Accra highway after a fuel tanker collided with another vehicle and erupted into flames, triggering a massive fire outbreak.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the tanker caught fire shortly after the impact, with the blaze spreading rapidly due to the highly flammable contents of the vehicle.
Within minutes, at least four other vehicles were engulfed in the inferno. The intensity of the fire reduced the affected vehicles to charred wreckage, leaving them burnt beyond recognition.
The explosion caused panic among motorists and pedestrians in the area, forcing drivers to abandon their vehicles and flee for safety.
Thick plumes of smoke billowed into the sky, significantly disrupting traffic flow along the busy stretch of road.
Emergency response teams were reportedly dispatched to the scene to contain the fire and prevent further escalation.
Authorities are yet to confirm the number of casualties or injuries resulting from the incident. However, the scale of destruction suggests substantial damage.
The Nsawam–Accra highway remains one of the busiest corridors in the region, and incidents involving fuel tankers continue to raise serious safety concerns.
Investigations are expected to determine the exact cause of the collision and whether safety protocols were adhered to prior to the crash.
