The President of the Tomato and Onion Truck Drivers Association, Mr. Tuffour, during an interview on OyerapaFM has recounted a deadly attack on commercial drivers and passengers in Burkina Faso, describing a targeted assault that left multiple men dead.

According to Mr. Tuffour, armed assailants intercepted a vehicle transporting passengers and goods along a highway corridor.

He stated that the attackers reportedly separated passengers by gender, shooting male occupants while leaving female passengers unharmed.

“All the men who were seated on top of the vehicle were shot dead,” Mr. Tuffour alleged, emphasizing the brutality of the incident.

Many commercial vehicles operating in parts of the Sahel region often carry passengers on top due to limited space, a practice that can expose travelers to heightened risk during ambushes.

While official security agencies are yet to release a comprehensive statement on the specific incident, Burkina Faso has in recent years faced persistent attacks from armed extremist groups, particularly along key transport routes.

The reported assault underscores growing concerns among transport operators who ply cross-border routes within West Africa.

Industry leaders are calling for enhanced security patrols, intelligence sharing, and protective measures to safeguard drivers and passengers.
