The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has intercepted and seized a substantial consignment of prohibited drugs at the Tweapease Police barrier on the Obuasi–Dunkwa highway.
According to a press release issued on February 16, 2026, by the Regional Headquarters in Bekwai, the operation was carried out by the Obuasi Police on February 13, 2026.
The seized items included 257 packs of 50mg tramadol, 58 packs of 250mg tramadol (commonly referred to as “Red”), and 58 packs of 225mg tapentadol, also known as “Royal.”
The drugs were discovered in two sealed brown boxes aboard a red OA Kia Grandbird bus en route to Ayamfuri near Dunkwa-On-Offin.
The driver of the vehicle, Joseph Nkrumah, 37, was arrested.
During interrogation, he reportedly identified one Perpetual, a native of Ayamfuri, as the owner of the drugs.
On February 14, while investigations were ongoing, the alleged owner and three others—Diana Mensah, 40; Abena Neyea, 43; and Nana Akua, 35—reportedly attempted to offer GH¢50,000 to police officers.
The money was retained as evidence, and the suspects were arrested.

The suspects are expected to face charges under the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851). Police have reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking within the region.
