The Bono Regional Police Command has recovered five assault rifles and other weapons following a gun battle with suspected armed robbers along the Dormaa–Gonokrom highway.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Sunyani, the operation was intelligence-led and targeted a robbery gang believed to be planning an attack on traders travelling through the area.
Acting on credible intelligence on February 11, 2026, surveillance teams were deployed to thwart the suspected plot.

In the early hours of February 12, officers advancing toward a parked motorbike reportedly came under gunfire from nearby bushes.
Police returned fire, and a subsequent search at daybreak led to the discovery of one male suspect who had sustained fatal injuries. An AK-47 rifle was found beside him.
A further search of the scene uncovered additional weapons and ammunition, including two Baikal single-barrel guns, a pump-action shotgun, a Beretta pistol with 9mm rounds, another AK-47 rifle, assorted cartridges, a dagger, a mobile phone, a Honda motorbike, a black mask, and items believed to be talismans.
The deceased suspect’s body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and have appealed to the public to provide credible information to aid in their arrest, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region.
