President Mahama Accepts Resignation of Deputy Defence Minister Hon. Brogya Genfi

The Office of the President has officially confirmed the receipt and immediate acceptance of the resignation of Honourable Brogya Genfi, the Deputy Minister for Defence.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency Communications Directorate, the resignation letter was formally received by the Office of the President at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

In his letter, Hon. Genfi cited the unfortunate and tragic events that occurred earlier in the day during a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise held at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

A stampede during the exercise led to significant casualties, which the Deputy Minister referenced as the primary reason for stepping down from his position.

President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged the gravity of the incident and respected the difficult decision made by Hon. Brogya Genfi.

The President expressed sincere appreciation for the Deputy Minister’s dedicated service to the nation during his tenure at the Ministry of Defence.

“The President wishes Hon. Brogya Genfi well in all his future endeavors,” the statement concluded.

The official communication was signed by Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
