A devastating stampede during a military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra has claimed the lives of six young women, whose names and images have since circulated widely on social media, sparking national grief and raising urgent concerns over crowd management at public events.
The victims have been identified as:

2. Priscilla Efya Larbi
3. Priscilla Essinam
4. Matilda Midorse
5. Yayra
6. Cara Eyiram Tordzro (aged 17)

According to reports, the incident occurred during a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise that drew thousands of applicants from across the country.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as overcrowding and poor coordination led to a crush at the stadium’s entry and registration points.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the intensity of the stampede led to several injuries and the tragic deaths of these six young women, all of whom had reportedly arrived early with the hope of serving their country through military service.
Among the victims was Cara Eyiram Tordzro, aged just 17, whose youthful ambition has come to symbolize the scale of the tragedy.
Each of the young women represented a life full of promise, cut short in pursuit of a national call to service.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and grief, with calls for a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the stampede.
Advocacy groups and civil society organizations are urging the government and security agencies to implement stricter safety protocols during mass recruitment and national events.
In response, the Presidency has acknowledged the severity of the tragedy, and the Deputy Minister for Defence has since tendered his resignation, citing the incident as the reason for stepping down.
