Due to the flammable nature of the materials, the fire escalated rapidly, producing dense, toxic smoke and intense heat that made firefighting operations extremely challenging.

Seven fire stations including Weija, Kasoa, Anyaa, Circle, Industrial Area, National Headquarters, and Dansoman dispatched a total of eight fire appliances to the scene.

Despite their coordinated efforts, two fire trucks experienced mechanical failures during the operation.

One firefighter suffered burn injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The affected factory, identified as Charkieh Plastics and Packaging Ltd., has operated for nearly 40 years and was a major employer in the region.

The manager of the facility, speaking to media, described the incident as “beyond imagination,” stating that six industrial washing machines and two plastic recycling units were completely destroyed.

Production has come to a complete standstill, leaving hundreds of workers uncertain about their employment.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire quickly consumed large portions of the warehouse, storage areas, and administrative offices.

Some residents were seen attempting to help staff retrieve items before the fire intensified. Fortunately, no civilian casualties were recorded.

There are growing environmental and health concerns due to the burning of plastic and rubber-based products, which may have released hazardous chemicals into the atmosphere.

Authorities advised residents in the surrounding communities to keep their windows closed and stay indoors until the air cleared.
