A tragic accident occurred at the Apollo Traffic Intersection in Takoradi involving a Toyota Hiace minibus with registration number AS 4568-16.
The incident, which happened in the early hours of the day, has claimed the life of an elderly female hawker and left several other individuals with serious injuries.
According to multiple eyewitnesses at the scene, the Toyota Hiace was reportedly traveling at moderate speed when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle due to a suspected brake failure.

In a desperate attempt to avoid crashing into oncoming traffic, the driver veered off course and slammed into a roadside crash barrier. Unfortunately, in the process, the vehicle struck a group of roadside vendors, including the deceased woman.
Bystanders and other motorists rushed to the aid of the victims before emergency services arrived. The injured were quickly transported to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The body of the deceased was also taken to the hospital morgue.
The Ghana Police Service and officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) have since cordoned off the area to investigate the exact cause of the accident.
Preliminary assessments point to mechanical failure, but authorities have indicated that a thorough inspection of the vehicle will be conducted.
Residents and commuters around the Apollo area are calling for stricter enforcement of roadworthiness checks and the installation of speed control measures at major intersections to prevent future tragedies.
