The Northern Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, has arrested twenty-seven individuals in a wide-reaching crackdown on drug peddling and related criminal activity in the region.
The operation, conducted on November 19, 2025, targeted known drug hotspots across Tamale and its environs.
Among the arrested were individuals identified as Iddrisu Abdul Bassit, Iddrisu Sadick, Yawuza Hishan, Yakubu Yussif, Alhassan Abukari, Mutaru Daniel Fisco, Ibrahim Abdul Wakil, and several others. More suspects are yet to be identified as investigations continue.

During the coordinated sweep, police recovered quantities of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, neatly packed in polythene bags. Additionally, five motorbikes believed to have been used in the drug trade were seized.
Subsequent operations within the metropolis led to more arrests, bringing the total number of suspects to twenty-seven.
All have since been handed over to the Northern Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation.
On November 21, nine of the suspects — five females and four males — were arraigned before the Tamale Circuit Court.
They were charged with unlawful possession of narcotic substances. Another suspect faced separate charges of illegal possession of arms and ammunition.
All ten pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.

The remaining eighteen individuals remain in police custody as investigations intensify. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating drug-related activities and ensuring public safety in the Northern Region.
