The Government of the Republic of Ghana has issued a strong and unequivocal condemnation of the recent military coup in Guinea-Bissau, describing it as an unconstitutional usurpation of power that directly undermines democratic governance.
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana expressed profound concern over the military action, which occurred following the peaceful conduct of presidential and legislative elections on November 23, 2025.
The coup has disrupted the anticipated announcement of the election results, originally scheduled for November 27.

Ghana denounced the attempted overthrow as a brazen move to subvert the will of the people of Guinea-Bissau and a dangerous interruption to the nation’s democratic progress.
The statement called for the immediate restoration of constitutional order and urged all parties to resolve any electoral disputes through peaceful, transparent, and legally recognized processes.
Furthermore, the Ghanaian government demanded the protection of all citizens and foreign nationals in Guinea-Bissau, particularly the officials of the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission, stressing the need for their safety and secure passage.

Ghana appealed to the people of Guinea-Bissau to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
