Group Engaged in Illegal Mining Activities Amid Ongoing Galamsey Crisis in the country while it has been one factor affecting our lives.
A disturbing video making rounds on social media has captured a group of individuals actively engaging in illegal mining, commonly referred to as “Galamsey.”
The footage, which appears to be taken in a forested area, shows several people using crude tools and machinery to dig through the earth in search of gold. The exact location of the incident is yet to be confirmed.

Illegal small-scale mining has long posed a serious environmental and socio-economic challenge in Ghana.
Despite numerous government interventions, including military-led crackdowns and community awareness campaigns, Galamsey remains widespread in many parts of the country.
The video highlights the persistent nature of the issue, with visible destruction of land and vegetation, and the use of makeshift water pipes typical of illegal mining setups.
A woman carrying a child is also seen in the footage, underscoring the broader social implications, including the involvement of women and children in hazardous mining environments.
Environmental experts have repeatedly warned that Galamsey is contributing to the pollution of major rivers, loss of arable land, deforestation, and long-term ecological damage. It also undermines legal mining operations and deprives the state of revenue.

Authorities are being urged to intensify surveillance, enforce laws more rigorously, and prioritize sustainable livelihood alternatives for communities reliant on illegal mining for survival.
This latest footage adds to growing concerns over the lack of effective enforcement and the need for more robust policy action to address the Galamsey menace before further irreversible damage is done.
