The operation, which aimed at curbing the environmental degradation caused by illegal mining commonly known as galamsey saw significant breakthroughs.
The NAIMOS team successfully immobilized six excavators used by the miners and seized a pump-action gun along with its cartridges, suggesting the high-risk and often dangerous nature of these illegal operations.
In addition to the seizure, troops destroyed several makeshift structures used as hideouts by the miners and demolished tools used in the illegal mining process.
Images from the site reveal large-scale destruction, including burning structures and abandoned mining pits, underscoring the scale of the operation.
The operation highlights the government’s continued efforts to protect farmlands, especially cocoa plantations, and natural water bodies from the harmful effects of illegal mining.
