He was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, following an extensive investigation led by U.S. authorities in collaboration with Ghanaian law enforcement.

According to official sources, Kumi is accused of playing a key role in an organized romance scam operation, where criminals posed as romantic partners online to exploit and manipulate vulnerable victims—mostly elderly Americans—into sending large sums of money.

The operation reportedly spanned several years and involved fake identities, fabricated love interests, and false promises of companionship and support.

U.S. investigators allege that the funds obtained through deception were laundered through a network of accomplices and channeled into personal luxuries, including expensive cars, jewelry, and real estate.

At the time of his arrest, Kumi was reportedly living a lavish lifestyle in Ghana, which raised suspicions and drew public attention.

Authorities say extradition processes are underway to have the suspect face charges in the United States. He is expected to be prosecuted for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and identity theft, among other offenses.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting international efforts in tackling cybercrime and financial fraud.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials have praised the cooperation between both countries in addressing transnational crime.

Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests may follow as authorities uncover the full scope of the criminal network.
