Manhyia Accepts Mr. Nkansah Osei-Bonsu as New Mamponghene

Manhyia accepts Mr. Nkansah Osei-Bonsu as new Mamponghene for the Mampong Traditional Area.

The Asanteman Council, under the leadership of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially accepted Mr. Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu as the new Mamponghene for the Mampong Traditional Area.

The decision was reached during a council sitting held at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, December 15, 2025.

Mr. Osei-Bonsu’s nomination had earlier sparked some controversy, with portions of the royal family raising concerns about his eligibility to ascend to the Silver Stool.

A petition challenging his nomination was submitted to the Manhyia Palace, prompting the Council to thoroughly review the matter.

After careful deliberation and legal consultation, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asanteman Council ruled in favor of Mr. Osei-Bonsu’s enstoolment, declaring him fit and duly nominated according to tradition.

The acceptance of Mr. Osei-Bonsu marks a significant moment for the Mampong Traditional Area, as the Mampong Stool holds great importance within the Asante Kingdom.

Traditionally, the Mamponghene also serves as the second-in-command to the Asantehene and plays a crucial role in governance and cultural preservation.

Preparations for his official enstoolment are expected to commence soon.
