The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) coalition has staged a protest over seven months of unpaid salaries, calling on the government to immediately address their financial grievances.

In a press briefing captured by Joy News, members of the association, dressed in red bands as a sign of protest, expressed their frustration over what they describe as a persistent neglect of their welfare.

According to the coalition, despite numerous appeals and reminders sent to the relevant authorities, their salaries have remained unpaid for over half a year, severely affecting their livelihoods.

The protest, which took place at a central location, saw nurses and midwives from various districts converging to voice their concerns.

Leaders of the GRNMA coalition highlighted that the delay in salary payments is demoralizing the workforce and worsening the already strained healthcare delivery in the country.

“We are professionals who serve diligently, even in the most challenging conditions. We cannot continue working without pay while providing essential care to the nation,” one spokesperson said.

The coalition has issued a formal petition to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance, demanding an immediate resolution.

They also warned of further action if the arrears are not paid in full within a stipulated timeframe.

This development adds to the growing unrest in Ghana’s health sector, as several unions continue to push for improved working conditions and timely remuneration.
