Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong reflects on 2020 support for Adwoa Safo amid 2025 NPP tensions in the party.

In a resurfaced interview clip from the 2020 general elections, outspoken Ghanaian politician and businessman Kennedy Agyapong explained his decision to campaign for Adwoa Sarfo, a fellow member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and mother of his two children.

Agyapong, who is currently one of the leading aspirants in the NPP’s flagbearer race for the 2025 general elections, cited personal ties and loyalty as key reasons for backing Adwoa Safo at the time.

In the video, Agyapong explained:

“I have two kids with Adwoa, she is so responsible. I decided to go neutral until the Speaker of Parliament called me to support his son against a woman I have kids with. How do you want me to do that?” he stated passionately. “I don’t know if he thinks I wash my face from down to up. So I hit the grounds for Adwoa.”

Fast forward to 2025, the political landscape within the NPP has shifted dramatically.

Despite Kennedy Agyapong’s loyal support for Adwoa Sarfo in 2020, the Dome-Kwabenya MP has now thrown her weight behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Agyapong’s main rival in the party’s presidential primaries.

The development has sparked conversations among political observers and party loyalists, with many pointing out the irony and shifting allegiances within the NPP. While some see Adwoa Sarfo’s move as a strategic political decision, others interpret it as a betrayal of personal and political loyalty.
