The High Court in Koforidua has dismissed an election petition filed by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) seeking to invalidate the Electoral Commission’s declaration of Frank Asiedu Bekoe, also known as “Protozoa,” as the duly elected Member of Parliament for the Suhum Constituency.
The petition, filed shortly after the 2024 parliamentary elections, alleged electoral irregularities and malpractices that the NDC claimed compromised the integrity of the poll results in Suhum.
The party requested the court to overturn the Electoral Commission’s certification of Protozoa as MP and order a rerun or fresh scrutiny of the results.

However, in a ruling delivered today, the High Court found no substantial evidence to support the claims of widespread irregularities or breaches of electoral procedures.
The presiding judge held that the petition lacked merit and failed to meet the legal threshold required to nullify a parliamentary election.
With this ruling, Frank Asiedu Bekoe of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) retains his seat as the MP for Suhum, a constituency considered strategically significant in Ghana’s political landscape.
The NDC has not yet indicated whether it will appeal the decision.

The judgment is seen as a major legal win for Protozoa and the NPP, reaffirming the credibility of the 2024 parliamentary elections in the constituency.
