Police Swoop in Kintampo Nabs 13 in Major Drug Bust; Cannabis and Tramadol Seized

In a decisive move to curb criminal activity and drug-related offenses, the Kintampo District Police Command has arrested thirteen individuals during a coordinated anti-narcotics operation within the municipality.

The swoop, carried out on the night of Thursday, December 18, 2025, targeted the farming communities of Babator and Kawampe, known hotspots for suspected illicit drug activity.

According to the police, the operation began around 9:00 PM, focusing on locations where intelligence had revealed the open sale and use of illegal substances.

Officers encountered groups of young men and women allegedly engaged in the public smoking and sale of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

Upon sighting the police, several individuals attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended after a brief pursuit.

Arrested Individuals:

1. Issahaka Amadu, 25 – Trader

2. Afia Sumaila, 32 – Trader

3. Yaw Johnson, 20 – Trader

4. Dankwa David, 30 – Trader

5. Abdul-Hakim Sumaila, 16 – Unemployed

6. Kofi Vandam, 24 – Farmer

7. Yambon Cornelius, 25 – Farmer

8. Jagri Seth, 22 – Motor Mechanic

9. Mubarick Manteiso, 36 – Labourer

10. Issahaku Abdul-Basit, 39 – Driver

11. Hamza Wedrago, 24 – Scrap Dealer

Items Seized During the Operation:

– 65 wraps of suspected cannabis

– 49 pieces of dried leaves believed to be cannabis

– Compressed cannabis concealed in polythene bags

– 19 blisters of Tramadol tablets

– 5 blisters of a substance labeled “red”

– Assorted cigarette packs: 5 Oris, 3 Royals, 1 Rothmans

– 4 keypad mobile phones

– 1 radio set

– 4 pairs of scissors and 4 lighters

– GH₵682.80 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales

All exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes, and the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.

They will be screened and possibly prosecuted upon completion of preliminary investigations.

Police Statement and Community Engagement

The Kintampo District Police Command commended the operational team for their professionalism and swift action.

The Command reaffirmed its dedication to flushing out criminal elements from the municipality, especially as the festive season approaches.

Residents are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities promptly.

Authorities also reminded the public of the dangers associated with drug abuse and criminality and assured citizens that such operations will continue as part of broader efforts to ensure safety and law and order.

The swoop forms part of a strategic campaign by the Ghana Police Service to eliminate drug dens and protect communities across the country.
