Family of Six, Including Infant, Burnt to Ashes at Atwima Manhyia

Atwima Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region has been thrown into deep mourning following a devastating fire outbreak that claimed the lives of six family members in the early hours of Monday.

According to preliminary reports, the victims all female included a 3-month-old baby, a teenager, and adult women believed to be from the same extended family.

The fire, which broke out in a residential property, quickly engulfed the building, leaving the occupants trapped and unable to escape.

Eyewitnesses say they were awakened by the sound of screams and the crackling of flames but were unable to intervene effectively due to the intensity of the fire.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly to the distress call and managed to bring the blaze under control. However, by the time the fire was extinguished, the entire household had been reduced to ashes, along with the lives it sheltered.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined, though investigations have been launched by both the Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Atwima Nwabiagya South, along with NADMO officials, visited the scene to assess the damage and extend condolences to the bereaved extended family and affected residents.

The tragic incident has sparked an outpouring of grief and concern across the region, with many calling for increased fire safety awareness and better preparedness, especially during the harmattan season when fire risks are typically heightened.
