The Adentan District Court 1 at Fafraha in the Greater Accra Region has ruled against award-winning Ghanaian musician, Black Sherif, also known as Mohammed Ismail Sherif, in a rent dispute.

The court has ordered him to pay a total of GH¢229,500 in accumulated rent arrears for his residence located at House No. 4, Recreational Close, NTHC Estate, Adjiriganor, Accra.

The case was filed by Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor, who claims that Black Sherif has not paid rent since August 2024.

The amount, which spans several months of default, is also subject to additional interest at the prevailing bank rate, as determined by the court.

Due to difficulties in serving the musician personally, the court granted an order for substituted service.

This allows court documents to be posted both on the notice board at the court and on the premises of the property in question, ensuring the proceedings can move forward despite his absence.

Furthermore, the court ordered that Black Sherif continue paying a monthly rent of $1,700 (payable in cedis at the applicable exchange rate) until he officially vacates the residence.

The legal process will continue even in his absence, as the substituted service now legally informs him of the action.

The ruling has sparked public interest, with many awaiting an official response from the artist or his legal representatives.
