The Ghana Armed Forces have taken decisive action in the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy dispute by removing Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a rival claimant to the Bawku skin, from the area.

This move comes in response to a recommendation made by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who has been leading high-level mediation efforts to restore peace in the conflict-ridden town.

Alhaji Seidu Abagre’s removal is seen as a significant step towards addressing the longstanding ethnic and chieftaincy tensions that have plagued Bawku for years.

His presence in the area has been viewed as a contributing factor to the instability, with rival factions continuing to clash over traditional authority and legitimacy.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was recently commended by Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II for his intervention in Bawku, advised that firm measures be taken to depoliticize the conflict and enforce lawful traditional leadership.

The removal of Abagre is believed to align with that advice and marks a strong signal of state support for the peace process.

The military’s involvement underscores the seriousness with which the government and traditional authorities are approaching the conflict resolution process.

Sources indicate that security in Bawku remains high as efforts continue to consolidate peace and prevent retaliation or renewed unrest.
