The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed the successful rescue of 26 individuals who were trapped in a vehicle crash near the popular Kintampo Waterfalls in the Bono East Region.
According to an official statement from the Service, the accident occurred during the evening hours of Sunday, December 22, 2025, when a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus rammed into a set of stationary vehicles.
The vehicles were reportedly parked by the roadside during a towing operation involving a broken-down Kia Bongo truck.

The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in a fire outbreak that engulfed parts of the vehicles. The GNFS rescue team from the Kintampo Municipal Fire Station responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, managing to extract 26 passengers from the wreckage.
Out of the rescued individuals, three sustained serious injuries and were immediately transported to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for medical treatment.
The others, though shaken, were assessed on-site and received preliminary care.
Preliminary investigations suggest that poor visibility and lack of proper warning signals at the scene of the initial towing activity may have contributed to the crash. The Ghana Police Service has since taken over the case for further investigation.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution on highways, especially during the festive season, and ensure adequate safety measures are in place when conducting roadside repairs or towing operations.
