Ghanaian Security Guard Stabbed to Death in the USA

A 53-year-old Ghanaian man, George Ennin, was tragically killed in a random and unprovoked stabbing incident in the Bronx, New York, on January 5, 2026.

The heartbreaking incident has shocked both the local community and members of the Ghanaian diaspora.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the fatal attack occurred around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Third Avenue and East 157th Street in the Melrose/Mott Haven neighborhood.

Ennin, a security guard and father of two teenage daughters, had just returned to the U.S. following a month-long vacation in Ghana. January 5 marked his first day back at work.

Authorities say the attacker, identified as 38-year-old Sean Jones, approached Ennin without provocation, kicking him and then stabbing him multiple times.

The assault was described by police as “random” and “unprovoked.”

Surveillance footage from the scene captured Ennin’s desperate attempts to seek help following the attack.

He managed to walk a short distance before collapsing on the sidewalk. Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported him to Lincoln Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police arrested Sean Jones in connection with the murder. Investigations into his motive are ongoing.

The Ghanaian community in New York and back home has expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

Ennin is remembered as a hardworking father and peaceful man. Community leaders have called for justice and increased protection for immigrants and vulnerable individuals in the city.
