He urged all stakeholders to respect this lawful position in the interest of peace and national unity.
“Naa Asigri Abugrago Azoka II is the legally recognized Bawku Naaba. The facts are clear, and the law must be respected. Without respect for the law, there can be no peace,” Otumfuo stated firmly.
The Bawku conflict, deeply rooted in historical and ethnic tensions, has resulted in years of instability, loss of lives, and disruption of social and economic life in the Upper East Region.
In response, the government invited the Asantehene to lead a mediation process, given his neutral stance and respected authority in traditional matters.
Otumfuo reiterated that his intervention was a mediation, not an arbitration, and was aimed at fostering dialogue and consensus among disputing factions.
However, he noted that the facts uncovered during the process were based on legal precedent and traditional legitimacy, and therefore should be binding on all parties.
The President expressed appreciation for Otumfuo’s efforts and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing outcomes that promote peace and stability in Bawku.
