Asantehene to Present Report on Bawku Conflict Mediation to President Mahama on December 16

Asantehene to present report on Bawku conflict mediation to President Mahama on December 16 after meeting both parties on several meetings at the Manhyia Palace.

The Presidency has announced that His Royal Majesty, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will officially present the report and recommendations on the Bawku conflict mediation to President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

This presentation follows months of engagement and dialogue led by the Asantehene aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict in Bawku, a town in the Upper East Region of Ghana known for recurring ethnic tensions.

The Asantehene was appointed as the chief mediator to facilitate peace among the feuding factions.

According to an official statement issued by the Presidency Communications Directorate and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, the event will be held at the Presidency at 4:00 PM.

The report is expected to provide a comprehensive assessment of the causes and dynamics of the Bawku conflict and propose practical and culturally grounded solutions to foster lasting peace in the area.

President Mahama’s administration has emphasized dialogue and traditional leadership engagement as central to its conflict-resolution approach.
