The changfan machines, often used in river-based mining, are known to cause severe pollution, affecting aquatic life and compromising drinking water sources for nearby communities.
The operation highlights the growing commitment of local authorities and environmental watchdogs to protect Ghana’s natural resources from further degradation.
The Ankobra River, a critical water source in the region, has suffered extensive pollution due to unchecked mining activities in recent years.
