The Supreme Court of Ghana has ordered an immediate suspension of the much-anticipated parliamentary election rerun in the Kpandai Constituency of the Northern Region.

This decision follows an interlocutory injunction filed by one of the aggrieved parties challenging the legality and procedures surrounding the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a rerun.

The Kpandai Constituency has been a hotspot of political contention since the 2024 general elections, where results were disputed amidst allegations of electoral irregularities and procedural breaches.

The EC had scheduled a rerun to resolve the impasse and ensure fair representation in Parliament.

However, the rerun has now been halted pending the outcome of the case currently before the apex court.

The Court has directed all parties involved to refrain from taking further actions that may affect the status quo until a final determination is made.

This development has sparked mixed reactions among political stakeholders and residents of the Kpandai Constituency.

While some applaud the court for its intervention, others express concerns over prolonged delays in securing parliamentary representation.

The Electoral Commission is yet to issue an official response to the suspension order.

Meanwhile, the case is expected to be heard in the coming weeks, with the Supreme Court expected to rule on the merits of the petition that challenged the basis for the rerun.

This ruling highlights the judiciary’s continued role in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic processes and ensuring electoral justice for all parties involved.

The case has been adjourned until January, 2026
