The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has emerged victorious in a long-standing civil case that had progressed through Ghana’s judicial system winning consecutively at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and finally, the Supreme Court by Spio Gabla.

The case, which has been the subject of intense public interest due to Wontumi’s political stature and influence, was originally filed at the High Court over a civil matter involving personal and professional disputes.

Though the specific details of the case have not been made public, it reportedly involved claims of defamation and property-related issues brought against him by a private complainant.

After an initial ruling in his favor at the High Court, the plaintiff proceeded to challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal.

The appellate court, after reviewing the facts and legal arguments, upheld the High Court’s ruling, affirming Wontumi’s innocence and dismissing the claims against him.

Undeterred, the plaintiff escalated the matter to the highest court of the land, the Supreme Court.

In a ruling delivered on December 4, 2025, the Supreme Court unanimously threw out the appeal, siding with the judgments of the lower courts.

The apex court’s decision marks the end of the legal battle and clears Wontumi of all civil liabilities related to the case.

Following the ruling, jubilant scenes were captured outside the court premises as Wontumi supporters, clad in party colors, celebrated what they called a “victory for justice.”

The businessman-turned-politician was seen in high spirits, posing with his legal team and expressing confidence in Ghana’s legal system.

Legal experts say the outcome reinforces the importance of due process and consistency in judicial rulings. It also strengthens Wontumi’s political image ahead of the 2026 general elections, where he is expected to play a critical role in mobilizing votes in the NPP stronghold.

This case adds to Wontumi’s growing as a resilient political figure who continues to command influence in both political and legal circles.
