A 25-year-old woman, Vera Asare, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the Koforidua High Court for her role in a fatal acid attack on her boyfriend.

The court convicted Asare of manslaughter after she admitted to pouring acid on Daniel Omane while he was asleep.

The incident occurred on November 29, 2024, following what prosecutors described as a domestic dispute between the couple.

According to details presented in court, Omane sustained severe burns as a result of the attack and required extensive medical treatment.

Despite months of care and multiple interventions, he succumbed to complications arising from his injuries on July 25, 2025.

During proceedings, the prosecution argued that the act was deliberate and resulted in irreversible harm, ultimately leading to the victim’s death.

The defence, however, sought leniency, citing the accused’s admission of guilt and cooperation with investigators.

In delivering its judgment, the court held that the evidence supported a conviction for manslaughter rather than murder, resulting in a 10-year custodial sentence.

The case has reignited public concern over domestic violence and the devastating consequences of acid attacks.
