An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a woman accused of stealing a baby from the Mamprobi Polyclinic into custody for two weeks.
The suspect, whose name was withheld pending further investigations, is alleged to have taken the infant from the health facility under unclear circumstances.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred shortly after the child’s mother had delivered and was receiving postnatal care.
Preliminary facts presented before the court indicate that the accused allegedly posed as a relative or visitor before leaving the facility with the baby.
The disappearance of the child reportedly triggered panic at the polyclinic, prompting staff to alert authorities.
The infant was later recovered through police intervention.
The court remanded the accused to allow investigators to complete their inquiries and compile the necessary evidence.
She is expected to reappear before the court at the end of the two-week period.
Meanwhile, health authorities have assured the public that measures are being strengthened to prevent similar incidents.
