Tragedy struck in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, when a fire swept through sections of the Dansoman Market, claiming the life of an 8-year-old girl.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the fatality in an official statement following a rescue operation.
According to the GNFS, the young girl was trapped in one of the affected areas and could not be rescued in time.

Her body, severely burnt, was recovered and has since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and further investigations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although preliminary assessments suggest significant damage to portions of the market’s infrastructure and goods.
Emergency responders worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent further spread to adjoining structures. Officials from the GNFS have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and to implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
