Daylight Robbery: Armed Robbers Raid Diaso Gold Shop, Escape with ¢8 Billion Worth of Gold

A gang of five armed robbers carried out a bold daylight attack on a gold shop in Diaso, located in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, escaping with gold valued at more than ¢8 billion and a pickup vehicle.

According to Kenneth Nuamah, an Adom News affiliate reporter with Rich One FM 96.3, the robbery occurred on a busy market day when the town was crowded with traders and residents.

The suspects reportedly arrived in a vehicle, with four of them forcefully entering the gold shop while a fifth remained outside to provide cover.

Witnesses said the suspect stationed outside fired warning shots using an AK-47 rifle and a sidearm, triggering panic and causing people in the vicinity to flee for safety.

The coordinated gunfire enabled the gang to carry out the robbery within a short period.

After seizing the gold, the robbers fled the scene in a pickup truck belonging to the shop.

The vehicle used by the gang to access the area was abandoned at the scene.

Police have since arrested one suspect in connection with the incident, while efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining four accomplices who are currently on the run.

The robbery has heightened tension in the community, with some residents and traders reportedly converging at the local police station to demand access to the arrested suspect.

Security has been reinforced in the area as investigations continue.

Police have assured the public of their commitment to apprehending the remaining suspects and restoring calm in the mining community.
