The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals after 1,050 rounds of ammunition were discovered concealed in a fertilizer sack on a commercial bus en route from Ac
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Gzali, 42, the driver, and his mate, Mohammed Jabir, 22, were apprehended at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier in the Ashanti Region during a routine inspection.
According to a police report, the discovery was made during a search of the vehicle when officers found the suspicious sack. Upon examination, it was revealed to contain 1,050 live cartridges, made up of both AAA and BB ammunition types.

Gzali reportedly told the police that the sack had been handed over to them at the station by an unknown individual who claimed it was a parcel to be delivered to a man known only as “Oboye” in Tamale.
The suspects claimed to have no prior knowledge of the actual contents of the sack.
The police have since taken both Gzali and Jabir into custody for further investigation. Efforts are underway to trace the identity of the person who delivered the parcel and the intended recipient in Tamale.
Authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the illegal transportation of arms and ammunition within the country, especially ahead of the upcoming election period.

The police have urged transport operators and the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious packages or persons to security agencies promptly.
