The ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been marred by disturbing incidents, including the arrest of an applicant for presenting alleged fake documents and a stampede at another recruitment center that tragically claimed lives.

At the Nicholson Stadium in Burma Camp, Accra, one applicant was apprehended by military police after he was found to have presented forged academic and identification documents during the screening process.

According to GAF officials, the documents raised suspicion during verification, prompting immediate investigation and subsequent arrest.

In a related incident, a stampede occurred earlier at the El-Wak Sports Stadium one of the major recruitment centers resulting in the death of six female applicants and injuries to several others.

The stampede reportedly happened during the early hours of the screening exercise when a large crowd surged forward in an attempt to gain access to the stadium gates.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with some blaming poor crowd control and inadequate coordination for the tragedy.

Emergency services responded quickly, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The Ghana Armed Forces has since expressed deep regret over the incident and assured the public that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause and prevent a recurrence.

Additional security and medical personnel have been deployed to all screening centers across the country to enhance safety and order.

As the recruitment exercise continues, authorities are urging all applicants to follow official procedures, arrive early, and avoid crowding.

GAF also advises applicants to desist from fraudulent practices, which not only jeopardize their chances but may lead to arrest and prosecution.
