Ghana Police investigate alleged kidnap and robbery of American citizen by impostors in the Greater Accra Region.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has officially launched a probe into a viral video involving an American woman, Arianna Naomi Mackey, who claims she was kidnapped and robbed by individuals allegedly posing as police officers in Accra.

In the video circulating online, Ms. Mackey alleged that she was abducted by five masked men believed to be on snap-check duty as police officers who then robbed her of an undisclosed sum of money.

The incident reportedly occurred while she was staying at a hotel in Accra with two companions.

According to a press release issued by the CID on December 9, 2025, preliminary checks revealed that Mackey and her companions checked out of the hotel on December 5th, the same day she departed Ghana via the Kotoka International Airport.

Investigators later contacted Ms. Mackey, who confirmed the incident but claimed she was unable to identify the alleged officers or their vehicle.

She also declined to share the contact details of her friend who was allegedly with her during the event, stating that the friend wished to remain uninvolved.

Ms. Mackey has since deleted the video from her social media page, and efforts by investigators to reach her via WhatsApp and other channels have been unsuccessful. She eventually blocked communication from the team.

The Ghana Police Service assured the public that they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness and are working to engage the alleged victim through diplomatic means to aid the investigation.
