The Government of Ghana has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the United States of America’s reported military invasion of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the subsequent abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
In a press release dated January 4, 2026, and issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana expressed grave alarm over what it described as a “unilateral and unauthorized invasion,” which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, January 3.
The Government emphasized that the act constitutes a serious violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Venezuela.

Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of non-interference, self-determination, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The statement warned that actions such as this — involving attempts to occupy foreign territories and control oil resources — pose a threat to global peace and stability.
The Government also condemned recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who reportedly stated that the U.S. would “run” Venezuela temporarily to ensure a “safe, proper and judicious transition.”
Ghana denounced such statements as reminiscent of colonial and imperialist ideologies, emphasizing that they have no place in today’s global order.
Calling for immediate de-escalation, Ghana demanded the unconditional release of President Maduro and his wife.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Ghana’s long-standing opposition to foreign occupation, colonialism, and any actions that disregard international law.
