A Ghanaian national who reportedly enlisted in the Russian military has been killed while fighting on the frontlines of the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict.
The deceased, identified as Kofi George, was said to have traveled abroad in search of better opportunities but later became involved in active combat.
News of his death was shared in an emotional Facebook post by his close friend, content creator Kofi Gharbin, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

In his tribute, Gharbin reflected on their final conversation two years ago, recalling how he had encouraged George not to lose hope after returning to Ghana from Canada.
According to him, George had been determined to pursue opportunities overseas despite earlier setbacks.
His death adds to growing concerns over the involvement of Ghanaian nationals in the Russia–Ukraine war.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa recently disclosed that at least 55 Ghanaians have lost their lives fighting for Russia since 2022, while 272 others have reportedly been recruited into the conflict.
Authorities have indicated that many were drawn in through misleading recruitment schemes that promised employment but ultimately led to combat roles.
The government has reiterated its warning to citizens against engaging in foreign conflicts, emphasizing that such wars do not serve Ghana’s national interest.
Officials have pledged to intensify public awareness campaigns and diplomatic efforts to prevent further recruitment and protect vulnerable youth from exploitation.
