It was gathered that Ramatu Abbas initially relocated to her parents’ residence before turning herself in to the police on Friday.
The case has continued to draw strong reactions, particularly amid allegations that the teenage victim, Iwasen Terhemba, was attacked after rejecting alleged advances from a married man said to be the suspect’s husband.
Community accounts indicate that the victim, who lives with her guardian, had consistently resisted the advances, citing her age and the man’s marital status.
Reports suggest that tensions escalated after the suspect became aware of the allegations, culminating in the alleged attack, which left the girl with facial injuries. Claims were also made that threats were issued to discourage reporting the incident.
The Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development has condemned the attack, describing it as a grave violation of a minor’s rights.
