A Nigerian woman has shared a disturbing account of how she lost her entire life savings after becoming involved with a man she met on the dating app Tinder, triggering intense reactions and debate across social media.

According to her testimony, the man introduced himself as a single father and a businessman involved in building and construction.

Early into the relationship, he requested a loan of GH¢3,800 claiming he needed capital to kick-start a project.

Trusting his story, she provided the money. She later went further, purchasing a Samsung smartphone for him, believing that a “serious businessman” needed to appear presentable among his peers.

Her financial support did not stop there. She said she rebranded her personal Instagram page, which had about 5,000 followers, to promote his supposed business.

When she asked for evidence of his past and ongoing projects, he allegedly sent her images sourced from Google.

By the time she realized something was wrong, she had sold her iPhone 15 Pro Max to repay loans she had taken on his behalf.

The woman revealed that the scam was allegedly orchestrated by the man and his wife, who posed as his younger sister to make the deception more convincing.

In less than six months, she claims to have lost approximately GH¢ 50,000— her entire life savings — leaving her financially ruined and, at one point, homeless.

Her story has reignited conversations about romance scams, online dating safety, and the emotional manipulation often used to exploit victims.
